Paul, Alinco magnets perfectly able to drop a charge "just like that" and I presume that it is what happened. If cause the environmental difficulties would not do it alone, at least for that time. Over winter I had output tubes worn up on both amps a...

I never had that Selenium 405 driver. Generally the phenolic diaphragms are very tricky and might have some excessive softness and some luck of transients. Selenium also had a habit to load gap with ferrofluid – it also might slightly detransientize ...

Adrian, I have not tried the top Deccas for many years. My last experience with them was as ever: I absolutely loved their unrivaled immediacy and presence, which I found totally addictive, and it also made other cartridges sound pretty pathetic by ...
To that I would only add the following: Start saving up now for a second pair of S2s.
Yes and no. I used the second S2 for lower MF range but it is not only way to go. I would propose that any driver with large a...

I picked recently a pair of S3 drivers. Not that I need them but it was good deal – perhaps someone in UK have demolished an old movie theater and a large school of S3 drivers with original diaphragms hit the maket recently. Also, I always meant to t...

Here's what I would do.In general :Start by excluding the DPoLs, excluding the electronics and associated gear, and considering just the room. With no electronics functioning, is the room an acoustically pleasant space ? Invite friends over and ...

I was thinking about the subject for a long time. People in audio love to make generalization, so do I, but in it is not so simple. People attribute to output tubes some “special” qualities but I more interested not about unnecessary drooling about A...
Romy,
I find the Veravox 5 drivers are strong contenders when searching for elevated sensitivity 5" drivers. I heard the Veravox 5X in combination with Shindo SET electronics and found it very natural-sounding. Both 5ers have cer...

None of the commercial speakers might relay on the Imbedded principles because the obvious reasons. They always look for as neutral as possible location because they mostly designed for anechoic operation. However, if the Imbedded techniques are used...

Adrian,
If you are still in MF frustrations then I have something that you might find interesting. Recently I pick up in UK a pair of Vitavox S3 drivers. They out to be with original metal cones. I do not need them but the price was too good to let ...

I looked at the schematic for Herb's 300B SET many years ago. It's been copied and slightly modified by many.... personally, I would not use it for a 300B amp... then again I probably wouldn't use it for a 2A3 or 45 either (I think my input/driver d...

I was informed that there is a new Estelon Extreme loudspeaker out there that costs ¼ million dollars. Not with interest I read about it http://www.estelon.com…and concluded that this is as idiotic as it get. Nope, I did not listen it and I have ...
The difference soundwise in this half range 180hz and up horn module between the Leak TL12.1 amps and the First watt F5 clone was big, mainly the tonal balance is very different with the midrange sounding thin. Highs w...
I find the sound of my horn loudspeakers very satisfying, and by the way I have the EdgarHorn Titans, which may make you chuckle if you are a horn snob, but I think they do a very good job, one of the best commercially available h...
Romy, apologies for being unclear: the amp is not yet built: this is just a spare chassis I am offering for others who may wish to build it too. Inputs and outputs have not yet been added to the chassis. I therefore cannot co...

Hi Romy,
May i ask if you have ever played with the Le Cleach flares and how you find them?
They were created to reduce reflections directly back into the horn. Only problem is they are very large because of this....

Angelo,
I care less about the “commercially available” objectives, honestly it is too boring.
However, whatever you do not be distracted that what you are making will be reminding Avantgardes. The Avantgarde Trio Classic (in vertical configuration)...
